The federal government along with local utility companies are now offering customers incentives for improving the energy efficiency of their home. There is no better time than NOW to start saving money on your monthly utility bills and help the environment as well.

Federal Tax Credit

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2010 provides federal tax credits for eligible building components that improve energy efficiency; this includes insulating your attic, walls, ceilings or other part of the building envelope that meets the 2010 IECC (& supplements) specifications.

Add value to your home with insulation now and get a 30% federal tax credit up to $1500! Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, up to $1500, in 2015 for existing homes only.

2014/2015 Energy Tax Credit Details

• Tax credit applies to “qualified energy efficient improvements” purchased and installed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2015 for the taxpayer’s principal residence in the United States.

• Tax credit is for the cost of the product only and does not include installation costs. Be sure to ask for a sales receipt that shows the cost of the product only.

• Tax credit is 30% of the amount paid for the product up to a maximum of $1500 combined for 2014 and 2015 (Including other eligible items listed in the IRS Notice).

• Claim the tax credit associated with your qualifying purchase on your federal tax filing for the 2014 and/or 2015 tax year.

Several state & local utility companies are offering rebate/incentive programs to their customers. Often times this allows you to increase your homes energy efficiency at little or no cost.

These state & local utility rebates can be taken along with the Federal Tax Credit of 30% of your total cost, up to $1500.
